Those of us who have observed the current generation Micra Cup racecars in Canada will have marvelled at how well they roll (in more than one direction). The next generation has just been revealed at the Paris Motor Show, and it looks much more suitable for dynamic movements. Roll on Micra Cup 2018!
My friend Darius is working at Nissan Technical Centre Europe, and he has had an opportunity to have a good look round one of the new cars. Like and share his photos on Facebook, and he might even win an opportunity to drive it!
I know, way more exciting than any 707hp Hellcat variant...

Hopefully this replaces the Versa here in the states.

Excitement uncontained.

Great news! I just saw a picture of the Dacia Sandero’s Japanese cousin!

Have you seen the interior though? It’s amazing.

I might have seen it, yes ;)
Even the low spec models look rather special inside:

Hot damn.

Very cool! I like the current Micra.....reminds me of my ‘09 Accent, just a reliable, basic, little runabout. This new one is very nice! I just hope all the added tech and whatnot that it comes with won’t up the price a lot. For $9999, the current Micra is a lot of car for the money, I’d think! As a fan of basic trim levels, I hope they keep a basic model of the new Micra for those who want it as well! :)

Oh god please, I am so sick of renting Versas.

No it doesn’t.

The new Nissan Micra debuted at the Paris Motor Show.
And nope, Americans still cannot have one of the cheapest passenger cars on earth, even though Nissan sells the Micra/March in practically every other market on the planet.
The reason is that it’s just too bare bones and perhaps wouldn’t pass US crash laws, even though the prior generation passes both European and Canadian crash standards.

The rear doors on the low spec car have these handles on them that you can use to wind the windows up and down manually...

Don’t know what a Versa is, but the Micra (including the new one which is quite a bit bigger that the last one) is Fiesta sized. So if a Versa is a Fiesta competitor, maybe so.

In production news, the current Micra is made in low cost India.
The coming Micra is to be made in high cost France by Renault. Pourquoi? Politics. Renault need to keep a factory in France open and so they have to make something there, even at a loss.

Carlos Ghosn doesn’t approve products which are predicted to make a loss. The new car is also primarily aimed at Europe (whereas the previous one was a lowest-common-denominator “world car”, meaning it didn’t suit anyone particularly well), so it makes sense to move production there. Wage costs up, logistics costs down. Sales (and hence profits) should also be higher, as more people are likely to want to purchase something more stylish, dynamic and practical than the outgoing car.

The everything on my Accent is manual!
Standard trans., no ESC, no ABS, no Cruise, no A/C, no power mirrors, no power locks, no power windows, no keyless....:P
I never got the half power half not thing though....if you’re going through the trouble of making the front windows powered, why leave the rear ones unpowered....or why not just leave the front ones unpowered...?

Nissan Versa, hatchback known elsewhere as the Nissan Note:

And the god-awful, puke-o-rama sedan is known elsewhere as the Nissan Latio. Just need an FE+ trim to make a good joke.

I wish Datsun would bring the Micra and Micra Cup to America.

Out of curiosity, is it a legal thing? I can totally see it being that because France.

Alot of the time it’s just that someone is willing to pay for it. In my MR2, it has everything for power windows, but no switch for it. Paying for power windows was basically putting the switch in. The old Geo Metros were available without a radio. They still had the speakers and wires, just no head unit. Basically it’s cheaper to build them all with alot of the options but see if they can get someone to pay extra to activate it.

Is what a legal thing?

Neat - the only thing I really miss on my Accent is Cruise Control on long journies - even the lack of A/C doesn’t really bother be around here.
Your argument makes sense though!

As in the government is requiring that they keep a factory in France in order to do business there.

No, the current Micra is a hateful little car, I had one for 2 weeks while my old Mazda 3 was being repaired after an accident, there was nothing at all to like about the Micra. I have driven all 3 previous versions and they had many plus points, I learned to drive in a mark 1, had friends who had mark 2's, the 1.3 Supersport version was oddles of fun, even the mark 3 was a nice little car, decent interior, drove well etc. The current Micra was the worst penalty box I have driven for a long long time. The new one looks awesome, well done Nissan (and Renault!).

The current model looks a lot better than this mess. =(

Not legal, just politics amongst other reasons:
“Renault promised to increase domestic production by about a third, or 180,000 vehicles, by 2016 in return for labour concessions obtained last month including wage restraint and longer hours.”

These are part of the reasons, sure, but politics and unions too:
“Renault promised to increase domestic production by about a third, or 180,000 vehicles, by 2016 in return for labour concessions obtained last month including wage restraint and longer hours”.

That is certainly true for Renault, but it doesn’t apply to Nissan. However, increasing production at a Renault plant keeps everyone happy. I’m sure the French Government encouraged the plant to offer a good deal in the bidding negotiations.

Renault production and Nissan production is not quite the same thing, but I’m sure it helps.

It looks like a Kia, except it’s got all the over-designedness of the latest Maxima.
Nope
